Hi all, I have to repair my old faithful VFD clock which has given faithful service for over 30 years! Its a cute little ball shaped Japanese unit, which uses four LD8051 VFD tubes. The symptom is that two of the digits have become very bright and the other two are very dim. The cause? Each tube has two paralleled filaments and the 4 tubes' filament leads are connected in series. Two of the tubes have lost a half-filament, thus leading to two bright and two dull digits. I'll leave the answer as to which are bright, which are dark and why as an exercise for the readers :-)
NEC LD8051 VFD tubes are, to put it mildly, hard to find. Russian IV-3 tubes are available on the auction site. So my question is, how similar are they and what are the ratings and base pinouts ? That info is hard to find as well. Anyone have a data sheet? Morris -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "neonixie-l" group.
