You really want to get into the "Rube Goldberg" spirit of the thing. Get two of these multiturn precision pots: http://www.bitechnologies.com/pdfs/7200.pdf Mechanically couple both to a servomotor. One pot goes to the Nixie ohmmeter, and the other is used for feedback. Have a controller drive the servo motor, and monitor the feedback pot until it dials in the proper time/resistance.
