I've been around since the Yahoo Nixie group. I have always loved
glowing and sparking things, and knew about Nixies since high school
in the early 80s. I always wanted to make a clock with them, since I
love to see digital-county things do their business. I bought a small
batch of ZM1210 and Z566M tubes around 2003? and made a clock from
them based on AVR uC. It's been working for 6-7 years. Trouble is,
I'm not a great case maker, so pathetic as it might seem, my clock
still has no case :-(

A few years ago I went bonkers and started collecting more tubes in
addition to my LED flashlight habit. I got into the Russian VFDs as
well, plus a few electrostatic CRTs, which I also played with in high
school.

I have spent the past 2 years designing a new PCB for 12 IV-17 tubes,
and another for 6 IV-11 tubes. These are finally done. I seem to get
hobby projects done ridiculously slow, because I have a little one
always wanting my attention, and how can I deny her? They don't stay
little forever!

That and too many interests. Just added piano playing and target
shooting over the past 2 years. Also, I design electronics at a
scientific laboratory, so sometimes you have just had enough and don't
want to do more of that at the end of the day. I used to be into
figure skating, but I'm getting too old for that. Hence, my moniker
"figureloop."

Hopefully I will have the new PCBs running in about a year.

My plans:

1. IN-18 clock
2. Z566M clock
3. NL840 clock
4. IN-17 clock in battery powered travel format with 6 digits.
Clocks with no seconds just aren't fun.
5. IV-11, IV-22, IV-12 display boards for 6-digit clocks.
6. IV-17 12-char display board, probably will make a "word" clock
7. CRT clock and vector display
8. RGB laser vector and abstract graphics projector and Python GUI
9. Tesla coil, solid state
10. Marx bank, to perhaps 1MV.
11. I was considering a RGB propeller clock, since I have experience
designing motor PLLs.
12. I wouldn't mind doing some laser range-finding, or a speed of
light experiment with ns light pulses and a fast oscilloscope when my
kid is a few years older.

Mostly eye candy!

Good day!
