The old National Semiconductor datasheet for the DM5441/7441 shows it outputting 0,1,2,3,4,5.
However, I have an old TI SN7441, and some ancient Motorola ones, and also a few from an unknown manufacturer that all light up two digits simultaneously as I described. Apparently, this had not been standardized.
