The liquid flux I use is made by Kester, type 2331-ZX. The matching wire solder has type 331 flux. I have been using these products for 20 years with excellent results.
I've also recently been using Sn96.5Ag3Cu0.5 lead-free solder made by Qualitek, which has a water-washable flux. I use the same Kester liquid flux with this solder, although there are other fluxes that are designed for the lead-free solder.
