And on that subject, I have an in-house/tech publication from one of the tube makers [Mullard?] that states that from a certain date they used the improved cathode in all their tubes anyway. [The improved cathode was the one they used in the computer tubes to overcome the sleeping-sickness].
If/when I re-locate it I'll post a copy.

You're right concerning the type numbers.
Wasn't that a kind of cathode poisoning during the off state of the tube?.
Especially tubes that stayed in off state for long times where notorious for
that 'illness'.
