I have often been able to remove shorts in TWT's, CRT's, etc. by charging a capacitor up and placing it across the two shorted elements. Works good most of the time. If at first it doesn't work either get a bigger cap, or charge it with more voltage. I have NO idea how it will work with you B7971 though, as that's uncharted territory for me. Ira.
