Liquid flux seems expensive to buy and it comes in tiddly bottles. I bought a solid tin of colophony, eg ebay item 121041198430, dissolved it in Isopropyl alcohol and it seems to make an excellent flux. Lots and lots of it can be made very cheaply.
Can the experts tell me if this is a really bad idea or not? I do wash the board off afterwards, but with SMT chips I suppose it might leave some kind of residue under the IC.
