The brown gooey-looking stuff is probably flux residue from soldering the component (which is on the other side). The component warms up the flux residue and it turns from transparent or yellow-ish to brown. This is nothing to be worried about, but if you want to get rid of it you can clean it off with some isopropanol. By the way, is that the footprint of the MOSFET? If unsure, take a picture of the same spot from the other side of the board. This would confirm my suspicion that it is the main heat source.
