We use embedded development tools where I work and they always have new
plugins based around all the lastest USB IP (usually the latest next
generation straight outta ACM and IEEE research).  It's totally non trivial
4 sure!  There's a LOT more to newer USB like USB type-C than I ever would
have guessed.  Reading the documentation for it wow.  We've come along way
since RS-232!  Sounds awesome though... Cutting edge new tech mixed with
classic old tech like nixie, numitron, and dekatron is straight up bad a$$
as far as I'm concerned!
