A friend of mine told me that he'd seen the spiral symbol used on a gas chromatograph to indicate that the oven was warming up.

Both of them have badly worn tubes. There's so much metal on the inside on the inside of the lesser significant digits that you can't even read them. I could slap together a single working unit but none of the tubes would be the same brightness. Somebody must have left them turned on for ages.
