It's really odd there was a lawsuit over these magnificent tubes, because 
neither company ever got into volume production. Maybe IEE was jealous of 
the XM1000 because it's rectangular flat screen seems to be more aesthetic. 
I think LEDs and VFDs were the final nail in the coffin for NIMO tubes.

Despite their 'wow' factor, NIMO tubes are not very practical as displays 
given their size, higher-voltage requirements, fragility. IEE tried to 
market them as a lower-power solution than nixies, and that might be true 
when we're talking a few milliwatts, but it's impact is like spitting in 
the ocean. NIMOs have an intriguing color, and other colors were possible 
with a change of phosphor (Nick posted about his super-duper rare orange 
NIMO awhile back).
