I've done a few rounds of that....such as throwing a working Dumont 304H 
oscilloscope into the garbage, and a working Teletype ASR-33. It still 
haunts me decades later.

Giving away something that works to someone who wants it helps erase that 
guilt. I gave away my working Heathkit scope I built in 1981 (the kit cost 
$969 back then) with zero regrets.
