Glad that's sorted.
You could / can get jacks with even more contacts as it is possible on
some makes to have extra switching which is isolated from the main audio
circuits. For example operating a changeover from mic to line or even
lamps or whatever to show that a plug is inserted. Fortunately your
application is 'simple' and only the mechanical exercise of getting in
there.

when i pulled the jack assembly from the bay i can see the R tag soldered to
the S tag. from underneath the desk this was easily missed! easy fix for my
install ... i'll just pull the 4 points and unlink these tags and i'm in
business. thanks!!
