here's the latest on my aux noises. i was dreading taking all modules out but it was driving me crazy that i couldn't find it.
took all the modules out of console checking noise as i went . noise left near last module. gave em all a massage and bath with contact juice, so far going back in quietly. i'm happy, so far got about a third back in. found one bad factory solder that's been there since day one. contact juice has restored the eq to almost new non scratchiness, those were really problematic. meters are mysterious i don't know how they work, they're multi segment LEDs that some segments have never work since fire. don't know if the Led segments are bad of something that runs em. i was plugging one back in yesterday and a 10 ohm resistor smoked, but it still worked. the 2 vu on master needs 2 of the glass bulbs that are shaped like a glass fuse they run off the 36v. so i guess they're 38 v. i need that bulb source again. i'll see if the meters will cause the same additional noise when i get modules back in. must have been ground / contact issue i'm thinking ,hopefully it was letting some trash from meters to get in. the cool thing is i can use the console with no LED meters and still have the master vu since recording in pro tools the metering is redundant. the vu runs independent of the LEDs what would i do to check in my meters? some segments don't illuminate. could i test the led with some voltage across pins to determine if they're good?? or is they're a chip or something that drives em?? that might go bad. i've noticed sitting in the rear of the console looking down behind and below say channel 6 or so, there are 2 small cards 1 " x 3.5 " each with a connector with maybe 8 pins. Basically raw power for the current demand of all those LEDs . If the ripple didn't change before / after the 4700uf caps were replaced, you can be pretty sure it's doing what it's supposed to. I think the fact that some of the meters are not fully functional is more worth pursuing. You could try pulling the ribbons from those meters and seeing if the noise drops. Also, have you looked ast the control circuitry for the meters that I mentioned in my last post?
