I can't really add anything specific regarding interface with a 3C,
however I have a good deal of experience with subs. First off is that a
significant benefit of the sub is to unburden the main speakers (and amp
to a somewhat lesser degree) of the reproduction of the lowest
frequencies. This will reduce the IMD (Inter Modulation Distortion)
component and can really clean up the sound. So use an outboard cross
over to relieve the mains from this load.
A few other thoughts (in no particular order) are: the built in
crossovers in most subs are a pretty weak point. I ended up bypassing
that part of my Velodyne UDL 18 and it really helped. They tend to use a
very simple, minimum parts count circuit in this position. Next, you can
really optimize the blend of the sub with the mains (this can be
difficult to end up with a "seamless" transition) by adjusting not only
the cross over point, but the steepness of slope on both sides and the
relative gains.
A simple way to set the sub gain without any test gear is to start
with it at zero, gradually have your helper bring it up while you sit in
the "sweet spot" till you just notice it; then turn it down a bit.
That's likely a good starting point. Try to find the specs on your mains
and find where the low F response starts to drop off; this will help you
to establish the cross over point.
I have an article I wrote on sub woofer integration a few years back;

adding the sub in parallel with say the speaker A outs (on which there is a set
of active Dynaudio bm6a) effectively lowering the input imp. seen by the master
module i take it is not the way to go....
my initial thought is to take a line out of the 2-mix #3 in the patchbay and
send that to the sub... i really wanted to be able to switch it out though when
i am on the smaller avantone monitors on speaker select A.
any tips from people using subs on their older neotek setups?
