I'm afraid it could be even worse than this. Something like giving
away fighter-bombers for a few $... 

I discovered some time ago some really lame shareware security
scanners on Windows. The only sane explanation I got about the
survival of such tools is that script kiddies are unable to set up a
working Linux or BSD environment :-\
