Have you considered an alternative approach -- running the scan from
cron?
Pros:
- Scans don't have to be restarted when Nessus is restarted.
- The config file can be updated (option tweaks, new plugins, etc)
between scans without having to restart the scan.
Cons:
- Requires some experience to set up.
- New plugins will be automatically enabled (non-DoS if
safe_checks enabled) by default. [This can be avoided using
my update-nessusrc script or an equivalent.]
Note: I believe NessusWX supports a batch mode so if you're using that
as your client you should be able to automate scans using the Windows
scheduler, at least in theory. [I work on unix mostly so I don't know
for sure.]
