Hi there --

I ran the /sbin/ifconfig command and the following, albeit edited, output was
generated:

eth0      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:02:A5:01:7A:63
          inet addr:xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
            Bcast:xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx  Mask:xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
          inet6 addr: fe80::202:a5ff:fe01:7a63/64 Scope:Link
          UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
          RX packets:27565 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:6117 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
          RX bytes:10239802 (9.7 MiB)  TX bytes:984742 (961.6 KiB)

lo        Link encap:Local Loopback
          inet addr:127.0.0.1  Mask:255.0.0.0
          inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host
          UP LOOPBACK RUNNING  MTU:16436  Metric:1
          RX packets:2262 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:2262 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
          RX bytes:3912488 (3.7 MiB)  TX bytes:3912488 (3.7 MiB)

The local interface and the loopback do appear to be defined. Also, pinging
both interfaces resulted in echo replies being sent back.

Run ifconfig and see if local interface defined.

Subject: Nessus Not Able To Start

Hi there --

The nessus program, version 2.2.4, on our computer does not remain on when
activated either via startup script or manual intervention. During manual
activation, using the command /usr/local/sbin/nessusd -D, the program appears to
load the plugins without difficulty. However, when the ps -ef |grep nessus
command is run, there is no instance of the application listed on-screen.

I have webmin on the server and I tried running a scheduled cron job manually to
see if any error messages would be generated. The output of the job was the
following:

                nessus : Could not open a connection to 127.0.0.1

While I was at the server console, I started the GUI program and was confronted
with the error message:

                Could not open a connection to the localhost.

I have done a soft as well as hard boot of the server without any change to the
situation. I have also verified that the server can see the network and is
accessible from it. Can someone provide insight to this? Thanks.
