"Service detection". While nmap does offer an option for service detection, as chmod077 pointed out, you may want to run that along with Nessus' service detection plugins for a comparison. Unlike nmap I believe, many of the service detection plugins implement the appropriate protocol, which will likely result in improved results, especially when the requests or responses are variable because, say, they include a host IP.
