Kal Rudman said he will buy about a dozen alarm systems, which cost upward of $400 each, in hopes of preventing another tragedy like the one that killed Woodrow. <SNIP> The new alarm systems, called Coolguard, will monitor the inside temperature of K-9 patrol cars and will sound an alarm whenever the temperature reaches 88 degrees. At that point, unless someone triggers an override switch in the car, the windows will automatically lower and a high-powered fan will start cooling the air in the car, giving any canine passenger relief. --------------------------- An Associated Press version of this story notes that both horn and sirens sound when the car overheats in addition to all windows being lowered and a powerful fan being activated. The system is also being bought in other areas that use police dogs in order to simply prevent a K-9 death like the one that occured in Philadelphia that ended a dogs life and a police officers career.
