The topic of the special issue is "The Teaching of Literature and Culture." I am looking for articles dealing with theoretical and practical methods of the teaching of literature and/or culture, how technology can be used for the teaching of literature/culture, student attitudes towards literature/culture, the role of literature in various disciplines, how culture can influence the learning process, the future of literary/cultural studies, ethical issues concerning the teaching of literature/culture, and the assessment of literary/cultural learning. http://rapidintellect.com/AEQweb/win0222.htm The articles should be 1500-3000 words long. Because of the interdisciplinary nature of our journal, no single format or manuscript style is required. The articles may be submitted by MS Word or postal mail. Although the deadline for submission is October 1, 2002, early submissions will be given special consideration. The latest Congressional effort to deal with the issue, the Children's Internet Protection Act, was blocked by a three-judge federal appellate panel in Philadelphia. While sympathetic to the goals of the law, which required libraries to install Web filters or risk losing federal funds for Internet access, the judges found the filters were too crude to avoid blocking unobjectionable material that library patrons have a right to see. In the absents of a federal standard, local library systems have gravitated to different approaches to meeting their needs. "Because libraries are so deeply rooted in their communities, librarians have the best read on their communities and how to approach the issues around Internet access," said John W. Berry, who stepped down this week as president of the American Library Association. While some libraries continue to use filtering services that blocks access to Web pages with adult content, others have made computer access more private to protect children and passers-bys from viewing unwanted content.
