That's a reasonable attitude. But it's not quite as simple as that. It's also a matter of balancing the undesirability of sending out a release with known bugs, against the risk of introducing new problems in the course of fixing these bugs. Both Wes and I have managed to introduce a trivial error (typically a missing semicolon) which meant that the whole thing didn't even compile. Having to press another 5.2.1 release just because of a trivial error like that is Not A Good Idea. Hence introducing this idea of feature and code freezes. I'm probably being overly strict about trying to apply this, but that's at least in part because we've been so appalling at sticking to it in the past (me included). > I'm involved in another project that's at RC1 and we're opening it > up again because we found some nasties. But that then raises the question of "how nasty is nasty". The policy we're trying to stick to is "major show stopping bugs", with a working definition of this being things like "won't compile" and "security hole" and "agent doesn't run at all". Not to mention the desire to get things out in a reasonable timeframe. There'll *always* be "one more bug" to fix. Remember that we've already slipped six weeks on the original 5.2 release timetable. We do *not* want to slip any further without very good reason to do so. But this project doesn't belong to either me or Wes, so if you wish to support Robert's suggestion of applying this fix for 5.2, you've a perfect right to do so. But it'd probably be helpful to say so explicitly.
