I don't know whether it had been cut at the time you asked the
question. but it's certainly out now.
  Given the discussion that this particular patch has triggered,
I'd strongly suggest that it's probably too close to the wire to
risk applying it now.

is a perfect example of why both Wes and I have been throwing wobblers
at the idea of putting things in quite so late.

Ideally the *only* changes to the 5.2.pre2 tarball would be fixing the
various embedded version stamps.   Perhaps tweak the documentation a bit,
but I personally wouldn't want to see any further changes to the code
or build environment for this release.
  And if we did, then that would probably mean curring a 5.2.pre3 first.
