OK - thanks.  I'll play about with them, and see what happens.

Can they be specified via "mib2c -S" as well,
or do they only work via the md2 file?

Actually, I'm sort of getting a bit more used to the way things
are organised.  If anything, I'd be half tempted to merge 'data_access'
into the main file instead, since they're both concerned with
initialisation and pre-request stuff.
   But I'll probably just document the multi-file arrangement,
since that's what most people will see.  I'm looking at simplifying
the example code, rather than changing things significantly.
