HI, We want to deploy a system which includes three parts: Agents, Proxy, and Clients. NET-SNMP version 5.2.1.2.
===================== Connections desc. ===================== There are lots of RH Linux servers. Every server will be installed a net-snmp agent. We say the Agents. There is only one RH Linux server on which we will install net-snmp to proxy all monitor Clients' SNMP requests to the Agents. We say the Proxy. All monitor Clients (normally Windows 2000 PRO or Windows XP) will only connect to the Proxy when performing SNMP requests because there is a sercurity gateway (e.g., a firewall, or a f5 BIG-IP) between the Clients and the Agents. The Clients only can access the Proxy. On every Agent, we have extended SNMP agent using AgentX to provide private SNMP MIBs data. ===================== Issuses ===================== We need to get all Agents' SNMP status/data. It seems net-snmp cannot proxy to multi-SNMP-hosts (we say all of the Agents). In the Proxy's snmpd.conf, we only can configure the option *proxy* to let the snmpd proxy to one Agent. So, we cannot get all Agents' SNMP status/data taking this way. For example, a Client cannot get all Agents' sysUpTime.0 using snmpxxx commands. Our developers want to extend the net-snmp on the Proxy to forward the client's SNMP requests to all Agents, and forward all Agents' replies to the client. ===================== Your Suggestions? ===================== Do you have any solutions or advices to us on this issue? Whether NET-SNMP has such a function and we don't know, or we really need to develop it ourselves? Thanks eveyone!! If any please post, or mail to me.
