That's correct.
We're almost at the point of releasing 5.2.2, and are starting to gear
up towards 5.3

5.2.2 - that's basically ready for release, with just a couple of
minor problems to iron out.

5.3 is only just starting the release process - applying a freeze
on new development, so we can concentrate on making sure it works
OK on all the systems we have access to. It'll probably be about
a month or so before that's ready to be released properly.

Yes - that's it in a nutshell.
When 5.2 was released, that saw this code move from "development"
mode (i.e. the constant addition of new features) to "bug fix only".
The 5.2.2 release is basically a consolidation of the 5.2.1 code.
There should be no real changes - just the fixing of assorted bugs.

Just 'cos something is a bug fix, rather than a new feature - that
doesn't mean it's necessarily a small change! Some bug fixes can
affect a large number of files.

But the behaviour of the 5.2.2 code should be practically identical
to that of 5.2.1. That won't necessarily be true of 5.3 - this
will see the introduction of various new features (and a couple of
re-implementations). So there are likely to be more visible differences
between 5.2.x and 5.3, than between 5.2.x and 5.2.y releases.
Not *major* differences - we do try to maintain backward
compatibility as much as possible. But a new major release will
always include new features, so may behave in subtly different ways
to the previous versions. Upgrading from one minor release to the
next is typically much smoother.

Does that help explain things?
