Hmmm... I thought we tried not to use GNU make specific constructs. (At least
I know Wes won't let me use the ones I want to use.) Do you have specific
examples?
FWIW, I've successfully used Solaris /usr/ccs/bin/make and Tru64 Unix
/usr/ccs/bin/make to build net-snmp, so I'd tend to say that GNU make is
*not* required in general.
