Have you configured the "snmptrapd.conf" file to *accept* these traps?
That's one of the most significant changes with the 5.3 release - traps
are no longer automatically accepted - they need to be explicitly
authorised.

Try putting:

        authcommunity  log,execute,net  sample

in your "snmptrapd.conf" file, and then restart the trap receiver.
Does that make any difference?
