I'd also suggest that you unpack a clean tarball
on each system, just to make sure there's no
cross-contamination.
  (You're probably already doing this, but better
safe than sorry.  90% of computer problems seem to
boil down to an "obvious" error - but obvious isn't
always obvious at the time :-)  )
