You are probably correct but not being a Linux guru and more of a network
kind of guy, I don't know what selinux is or how to tweak it or just turn it
off. Do you how where I can learn about this?

Do you have selinux turned on/enforcing? If so, you'll probably have to
tweak
it to allow the script to run.
