Narayana Smaranas,

I have a simple setup of a Ucd-Snmp Master agent on a
linux box and a third-party Snmp manager on another
system. I have Snmp v3 support enabled. With the
configured user name and passwords, I am successfully
able retrieve the Snmp data from the agent on the
linux box, to the Snmp manager running on a outside
system.

Using ucd-snmp utility, snmpusm, on the same system,
where the master agent runs, I am able to change the
user passwords as well.

Now I manually go and change the time on the Linux
box, to a older date (a couple of years back). After
changing the time, attempts to execute snmpusm for
modifying the passwords of an existing snmp user,
fails with "Not in time window" authentication error.
This error was clearly visible when the debug messages
were enabled for the snmpusm utility.

My question is :

Is this the expected behaviour ?

Or

Should the Master Agent update it's authoritative
clocks (SnmpEngineBoots, SnmpEngineTime &
lastReceivedEngineTime? ) ?

The source file I observed was lcd_time.c
In lcd_time.c, "lastReceivedEngineTime" is based on
the time(..) function (In net-snmp, it is
snmpv3_local_snmpEngineTime()). After the system's
time is manually changed to a lower date, the
get_enginetime_ex(...) function, returns a negative
integer. Due to this negative value being returned, I
think that the snmpusm fails with the
"NotInTimeWindow" authentication failure.

Is this the expected behaviour of the master agent.
Can someone respond to me at the earliest.

Narayana Smaranas,
Venkatesha.
