Nothing at all?   Not even a version message?
I presume you killed off the previous trap daemon first.

That's odd.
If you're still using the 5.1 trap daemon, then the
first thing we would suggest would be to upgrade.
See if you have similar problems with a newer
version of the software.
  (v5.1 is over six years old now, and there have
been several updates to the 5.1.x line since then,
never mind the 14 newer releases!)
