Based upon the remarks of Stephen and the code he sent me (eternal
gratitude!), I have reworked the patch to first use netlink IFLA_STATS,
if that's unavailable (or fails for the specified interface) use
/proc/net/dev and for all objects not done, use /sys/class/net entries.
The entire patch is now some 300 lines and would replace the original
patch posted on Feb, 10. How do I publish this patch? Do I have to do
special things to replace the original patch?
