I'm sort-of-sympathetic to that position.
It would certainly seem sensible to try and get this fixed if at all possible.

I'm still hoping to get the next RC tarballs out this week, but wouldn't
be averse to spinning one further RC cycle to include a fix for this issue.

However I'd be reluctant to hold the full releases up for too long.
This has been a problem for many many years, but hasn't triggered
a large volume of complains.   So although it's technically incorrect,
it clearly hasn't been a major problem in practise.


Do you have any feel for whether a full fix is likely to be
reasonably imminent?
