My main concern about this patch is that it amends the configure script,
and hence potentially affects all builds, regardless of architecture.
That would therefore tend to indicate the need for another RC cycle,
rather than going to full release (provisionally planned for this week).

I'm not totally convinced whether this is justified here, but I'm going to
wimp out and abstain from voting!
