Hi,

I've already queried about this problem but never got a resolution so I'd like to start over. I'm using the snmp, snmpd snmptrapfmt packages from Debian Sid. These are binary installs of net-snmp v5.1. I am using them in their as-installed configuration. The /etc/snmp/snmptrapd.conf file is empty. The daemons are run with the following syntax:

snmpd -Lsd -f/dev/null -p /var/run/snmpd.pid
snmptrapd -Lsd -p /var/run/snmptrapd.pid

When I start the daemons, I can see them running with ps. The syslog shows that they have started. I send link state traps from a Cisco router to the host running snmptrapd. A tcpdump shows that the traffic is being received...

tcpdump: verbose output suppressed, use -v or -vv for full protocol decode
listening on eth0, link-type EN10MB (Ethernet), capture size 96 bytes

2 packets captured
2 packets received by filter
0 packets dropped by kernel

...however nothing ever shows up in the syslog about the trap. Can someone please help me figure out why I cannot get snmptrapd to log Cisco traps? Do I need to install the Cisco MIBs or something?

Regards,
Russ
