$ man snmpd.conf NAME /usr/local/etc/snmp/snmpd.conf - configuration file for the Net-SNMP SNMP agent. The agent actually looks in both places. The important point here is that it *doesn't* look in /root/snmpd.conf which seemed to be what Mike was assuming. (Unless I misunderstood the message).
