It's definitely the size/contents of the output. Using "cat" on the files caused the exact same problem to occur - output truncated for prtdiag/ps, and prtconf just hung up the agent. FYI, here's the stats on the files:
$ wc /tmp/prtdiag /tmp/prtconf /tmp/ps
101 289 2775 /tmp/prtdiag
686 1263 38022 /tmp/prtconf
27 134 1120 /tmp/ps
814 1686 41917 total
Considering I needed to roll-out the agent last week, I'm going to roll out 5.0.9 right now. However, I will volunteer my time / resources towards tracking this issue down. I'll even take a peek at the code to see what I can see ... as soon as I get this roll-out of a new server farm completed.

Is this MIB in the CVS tree? I didn't see it in the /usr/local/share/snmp/mibs directory post-install for 5.1.1.

Thanks for the tip - I will be "refactoring" our monitoring system sooner rather than later, and would like to review this new approach, keeping it in mind when re-implementing.
