Ok - that's useful to know.
It's probably some unwarrented assumptions in the code.

No - it's not in the 5.1.x line.
It's *just* in the main CVS tree.

Wes would have absolutely crucified me if I'd try to slip that in
disguised as a "bug-fix".   It's clearly a "new feature" so belongs
solidly in the main development branch.
