The
location of storage for the value of MIB variables is actually a
complicated
issue. They may be stored in the registers of hardware, such as
ethernet
chips. They may be stored in files on a hard disk. They may
be stored
internally in the SNMP agent. Further, the location of storage is
independent
of the
abstract description of those variables, as specified in the MIB.
The
MIB
gives the abstract description. The agent provide the means to
obtain
values
for MIB described variables. The variables are a third party to the
MIB
and
the agent, in general, with the slight caveat that variables are allowed
to
be
contained in the data areas of the agent, as desired by the
implementor
of the
agent. Just as well, the implementor may construct the agent
without
having
any variables stored in the data areas of the agent.
Does
this description provide sufficient answer to your query?
