Doesn't active monitoring only apply to the device on which snmpd is running on? So if I install snmpd on my linux machine, my linux machine will be able to respond to snmp queries as well as generate traps automatically. But what I really want is for a router to generate traps automatically. Like when the number of packets outputted is greater than some number. So far I can only think of cron.
