Doesn't active monitoring only apply to the device on which snmpd is 
running on? So if I install snmpd on my linux machine, my linux machine 
will be able to respond to snmp queries as well as generate traps 
automatically.

But what I really want is for a router to generate traps automatically. 
Like when the number of packets outputted is greater than some number. So 
far I can only think of cron.
