MD5-based or SHA-based authentication? The basic Net-SNMP code includes built-in support for MD5-based authentication. If this is sufficient for you, then you don't need the OpenSSL libraries (i.e. libcrypto). We only rely on that for SHA-based authentication (plus SNMPv3 privacy).
