That guy was clueless. Or you misunderstood. SNAMP is a
company. "ess-enn-emm-pee" is the right way to say
it. It sounds silly to try to force something that won't ever happen.
Now for something really funny, I used to hear SCSI pronounced
"Sexy" on the west coast, and "scuzzy" on the east coast. I
think "scuzzy" won out, but I've never hear anyone who knows
anything about the protocol SNMP say anything other than
the individual letters...
