Hi,

I require clarification on the ports required to be opened for NET-SNMP
to work.

I know that UDP 161 is required, but I have been unable to confirm if
this needs to be opened as a 2 way rule as shown below:

Source Destination Port

Monitoring Server Monitored Server UDP 161

Monitored Server Monitoring Server UDP 161

Or a 1 way rule as shown below:

Source Destination Port

Monitoring Server Monitored Server UDP 161

I have checked the FAQ and archived messages and have been unable to
find this information. I managed to find the following info (Link
<http://www.net-snmp.org/wiki/index.php/FAQ:General_18> ), but it
doesn't quite clarify the question for me:

What ports does SNMP use?

There are three main network ports (and one named socket), which are
typically used by SNMP. These are:

UDP port 161 - SNMP requests (GET* and SET)

    UDP port 162 - SNMP notifications (Traps/Informs)

    TCP port 705 - AgentX

    /var/agentx/master - AgentX

We don't use SNMP Traps and I am not aware of what AgentX is, we use
Solarwinds as our monitoring server and NET-SNMP as the SNMPv3 agent for
all servers within our DMZ.

Regards
