Which environmental variables were you thinking of?
It's not normally necessary to adjust the environment,
unless you've got specific requirements (like additional
non-standard MIBs)

A typical installation of

     ./configure
     make
     make install

should result in a working environment.
(With perhaps the additional 'ldconfig' to update the list of libraries).


And if installing from a pre-compiled binary distribution,
that should Just Work as well.
