Hello Everybody, I recently joined the list and thought I should introduce myself and what I do. My name is Kevin Flanagan and I'm a visual artist working with drawing, performance and video. I'm currently finishing year 1 of the 2yr practice based Masters of Fine Art at the University of Ulster Belfast. This year I've been focusing on video and drawing. I've No drawings online yet but Ive been posting selected videos to my video blog at http://www.kevflanaganvideoartblog.wordpress.com Its all experimentation at the moment, enjoying learning and developing an understanding of the language of moving images. There are lots of things that influence my approach. Most recently Chris Markers Sans Soleil, theres alot I like about this film but particularly the approach to the film making process. After describing his ideas he says: "Of course I'll never make that film. Nonetheless I'm collecting the sets, inventing the twists, putting in my favorite creatures. I've even given it a title, indeed the title of those Mussorgsky songs: Sunless." Well in a way I'm making a film, though I'm not fully sure what its about, and for the moment that doesn't matter, its the practice and process thats most interesting. I also recently tried reading Deleuze's Cinema. I found it difficult, so I picked up the aptly named 'Deleuze A Guide for the Perplexed' which is a bit more manageable, Ive read about half so far, I'm enjoying it and can relate in some way. Ok am putting this out there and I would love to hear feedback. The work is also licenced with Creative Commons so if anyone is interested in doing other things with them your free to do so.
Regards Kevin Flanagan
