The Map: Navigating the Present.

The largest exhibition at Bildmuseet just now is The Map: Navigating the
Present. It is a trans-border exhibition of Bucharest Biennale 3, the
Romanian Cultural Institute and Umeå 2014.

The exhibition features artists, who are especially interested in maps,
and cartographers, geographers, linguists, photographers, philosophers
and activists. The works and projects of close to 40 Swedish and
international participants vividly portray numerous burning issues of
our times. A wide variety of topics are presented with cartographic
practice or an idea of mapping as the common denominator.

A few of the artists who participate are Sabine Réthoré, Philippe
Rekacewicz, Armin Linke, Katarina Pirak, Lia Perjovschi and Yoko Ono.

The exhibition that fills the entire Bildmuseet will also change and
develop during the exhibition period. Extensive programme activities
like lectures, presentations by the artists, showings and workshops are
part of the trans-border project.

The Map: Navigating the Present has been organized by the Bildmuseet.
The exhibition has been set up with the cooperation with Bucharest
Biennial 3 and was shown in its first version in Bucharest in the summer
of 2008. The partners are the Romanian Cultural Institute and Umeå 2014.
The project has been made possible though a special allowance from the
Foundation for the Culture of the Future.

The exhibition is open until 8 February 2009.
