I must say I think it's disgusting that the Tate are still accepting funding
from BP. The very least charge which can be levelled against BP is that they
don't seem to have done any contingency planning at all. They've acted on the
assumption that a disaster of this type would never occur, and only now that it
has happened are they trying to think what can be done about it. This is
exactly what worries me about nuclear power, which governments are now turning
to in an attempt to reduce carbon emissions - nuclear generation is only an
acceptable source of energy provided nothing goes wrong with it, but of course
things always do go wrong - but that's another argument.

I'm sure there are good people working for BP, and for all the oil companies.
My brother in law used to work for Shell. I'm sure he didn't think that the
occasional environmental catastrophe was a price worth paying for oil. But
actions speak louder than words, and this is the message that comes across time
and again from the actions of the oil companies.

I don't think British Petroleum should be called British Petroleum any more. It
makes me feel ashamed to be British. I think those of us who live in Britain
should start a campaign to demand that they change their name, as a measure of
our disgust with them and desire to dissociate ourselves from them. Shittish
Petroleum might be more appropriate.
