Nice one Bill, I hadn't come across Dump.fm it's like a trash-web2.0 version of the Irremediable email lists - one of my favourite lurking locations.
thanks for pointing it out. cheers Ruth -----Original Message----- From: a bill miller <[email protected]> Reply-To: NetBehaviour for networked distributed creativity <[email protected]> To: NetBehaviour for networked distributed creativity <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [NetBehaviour] economy_is_to_be_sacrificed Date: Fri, 3 Sep 2010 08:56:37 -0400 Hi Dave I made this drawing using a basic collage generator: http://davemiller.org/tools/collage_generator I know a place where some people might be really interested in using this sort of HTML & CSS collage tool. As you said, a file upload for the images would be nice, but what might be more functional for your end would be to allow URL's for images. That way a user could host their own or farm images. The reason I say this is because I pop in now and again on dump.fm - its an image chatroom. Mostly people post images and combinations of images as you would in a normal chatroom. I saw mostly because some users get wordy or people talk a bit. For the most part though the images are either the user's, found images, or reposted in new configurations from other user posts. Where does this fit with your collage generator? It's called bon.gs - I'm not sure who made it originally or set it up, user timb maybe (I think), and andrej was the first one I saw posting it regularly, but anyway, its similar to your tool. It allows for someone to post and place images from the web into a collage. The url's get long but they include all of the instructions for creating the display kinda like some api's. I'll post a shortened version of a recent one somebody made and then the actual generated URL http://tinyurl.com/34tjp33 goes to here: http://bon.gs/tile/#img=http://dump.fm/images/20100830/1283219514709-dumpfm-ohgod-Untitled-3.png;x=249;y=225&img=http://d21c.com/AnnesPlace/Hal/VampireTeeth.gif;x=305;y=430&img=http://archives.simplelists.com/gccmail/gifQL4Y8vlJww.gif;x=312;y=226&img=http://www.animationbuddy.com/Animation/Science_and_Body/Mouths/Mouth.gif;x=372;y=294&img=http://d21c.com/AnnesPlace/Summer3/SunAni.GIF;x=341;y=143&img=http://www.alecoxenford.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/bart-scared.gif;x=696;y=250 Not sure if you'd find it interesting or not. Its another way to put together collage on the web and pretty fun. I've seen some really great ones in the past. To use it, click the square radio button up in the top right, then add URL and move it around or tile. You can add as many as you want I think and do just about anything. TIME WASTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Have fun Bill -- A.
